Anyone, who thinks Jesus was poor, has misquoted or misinterpreted the Bible. Someone’s family background has nothing to do with one’s future. His earthly father was a carpenter. Of course, his father’s profession did not contribute anything to his mission on earth.
Some religious leaders in the Bible didn’t believe in his messiahship because Jesus was born of a carpenter.
Even his family background did not, in any way, affect his status when he started his ministry the age of thirty. He was not just rich; he was extremely rich. Before I show you the Bible verses, I will tell you a bit about the event.
When he was at the other side of the sea of Galilee, he was moved as a result of the number of people that followed him. The Four gospel books — Matthew, Mark, Luke and John — confirmed the people were over 5,000. Take a look at it below…
For there were about five thousand men. Then He said to His disciples, “Make them sit down in groups of fifty.”
Luke 9:14 NKJV
Then Jesus said, “Make the people sit down.” Now there was much grass in the place. So the men sat down, in number about five thousand.
John 6:10 Nkjv
Now those who had eaten the loaves were about[f] five thousand men.
Mark 6:44 Nkjv
Now those who had eaten were about five thousand men, besides women and children.
Matthew 14:21 Nkjv
From the last verse, Matthew said the 5,000 people were men. In other words, the women and their children were not counted. So, over, 5,000 people were with him. Then, Jesus noticed these people had
been with him for quite some hours. As it was getting late, he felt it was high time they ate. The conversation between Jesus
and his disciples will reveal to you how rich Jesus was. Knowing fully well the large number of people with him, he told his disciples to get food for them.
A poor man would never think of feeding 5,000 men with their wives and children.
Read the conversation below…
And Jesus, when He came out, saw a great multitude and was moved with compassion for them, because they were like sheep not having a shepherd. So He began to teach them many things.
When the day was now far spent, His disciples came to Him and said, “This is a deserted place, and already the hour is late.
Send them away, that they may go into the surrounding country and villages and buy themselves bread;[e] for they have nothing to eat.”
But He answered and said to them, “You give them something to eat.” And they said to Him, “Shall we go and buy two hundred denarii worth of bread and give them something to eat?”
Mark 6:34-37 Nkjv
From the conversation above, you would have discovered they were in a desert place. They would have to trek a long distance to get food, even, from neighboring villages. Conclusively, the disciples of Jesus suggested the people
should get their foods by themselves. However, Jesus told them, in verse 37, to feed the people. That means Jesus, himself, was capable of feeding over 5,000 people. If he was not capable, he wouldn't tell his disciples to feed them.
Anyone who has 5 children in a house will tell you how strenuous it is feeding them for 100 days.
Jesus proved how rich he was in that desert. He wanted to feed that large number of people from his pocket (don’t forget he had a treasurer who was Judas Iscariot),
but he was told that the food available would not be enough.
Then, the disciples asked him if they should get 200 Denarii worth of bread.
Ooh my God! 200 Denarii should be equivalent to over $10,000 in our today’s currency. How on earth can 12 disciples carry over $10,000 worth of bread? Talking of the size and how to carry the bread is another matter. Jesus was not a working class, yet he had over $10,000 — several centuries back — with him. Definitely, if all he had was just that amount, the disciples would have complained about getting the bread. After all, feeding the 5,000 men with their children would have exhausted their savings. However, the disciples did not complain. Thereby, confirming how rich Jesus was.
With that unforgettable event, anyone who doesn’t desire wealth because of his or her closeness to Jesus is making a huge mistake.
