Due to human nature, every man or woman is inquisitive. In fact, everyone wants to know about everything on earth.
Not letting the cat out of the bag spurs our curiosity like fire ravaging cloth.
To satisfy a man’s curiosity, someone must provide answers to all his questions. This is the reason religion matters so much. It answers all questions anyone can ever come up with. It provides wisdom for living. More so, it can help you find your purpose in life. In addition, it gives hope to the hopeless.
Without it, man would have accepted the wrong meaning of wife in the dictionary.
Mind you, there are lots of religious books, which differ in several ways. Your standard should be the word of God — Bible.
Whatever meaning it gives to any word is the best you can ever find. The meaning of wife in the Bible can never be compared to what you have in the dictionary.
It is not a book written by one man like other religious books. Several authors who were moved by the spirit of God wrote as they were led by him.
Some religious books were written in 10-50 years, which was during the lifetime of their authors. Bible was quite different: It was written over 2000 years.
Dictionary is Man’s Standard; Bible is God’s Standard.
I do not dispute the importance of dictionary. However, it is not — and can never be the best — a book that can give the best or right answer to the religious questions of man. Perhaps, some people thought the meaning of wife had nothing to do with religion. Marriage is an institution that was initiated by God. In as much as God initiated the institution, he should be in the best position to answer any question related to the institution. Dictionary, which is a glossaries of different languages, states that the meaning of wife is a married woman considered in relation to her spouse. In details, a wife, according to dictionary, is someone who is married whereas the word of God — Bible — states that a woman who has had a formal agreement to get married with a man is a wife. According to the word of God, this implies that a woman who is engage is a wife.
Now the birth of Jesus Christ was on this wise: When as his mother Mary was espoused to Joseph, before they came together, she was found with child of the Holy Ghost.
19 Then Joseph her husband, being a just man, and not willing to make her a public example, was minded to put her away privily.
20 But while he thought on these things, behold, the angel of the Lord appeared unto him in a dream, saying, Joseph, thou son of David, fear not to take unto thee Mary thy wife: for that which is conceived in her is of the Holy Ghost.

The angel of God that was sent to Joseph told him to take Mary when he was thinking of breaking their engagement. When the angel mentioned Mary, 'your wife’ was added to her name. This means a wife is not just a married woman, but someone also a woman who is engage. In addition, a virgin, according to the book of Deuteronomy 22:23-28, who is not engaged becomes a wife if a man defiles her.
The word of God considers the virgin (after the man in question pays 50 shekels to the father of the virgin) a wife even though they are not yet married. For defiling a virgin, a man has put himself in an everlasting agreement with her.
A Bible Concordance is Better Than a Dictionary
A Bible concordance gets its meaning from the word of God. Anything outside the biblical meaning is not relevant.
In a secular world, any meaning can be given to a word. However, in christendom, we cannot ascribe any meaning to a word outside the word of God.
God is the all-knowing; he is omniscient. He knows all things, even the non-existing things.
Most people rely on their own knowledge.
Can a creature be wiser than his or her creator?
Therefore, God should be our dictionary. He, himself, is the word that existed before the Heavens were made. Every good word comes from him.
Wife in the Bible — means any woman who is engage to a man — is a good thing, a good word, because he that finds a wife has found a good thing.
