Can we even account for the number of different pictures of Jesus we have online?
There are so many of them that it is very difficult to identify the real picture of Jesus. Even when I thought our churches would be of help, I could assure you that if you visit different churches in different parts of the world, you would still come across different pictures of Jesus.
Isn't that confusing enough to confuse anyone interested in knowing what our master really look like?
So, if you're as inquisitive as I am, then this post will be one of the most exciting Christians articles you will ever come across in the world, as it will clear your doubts and make you realize in no time what our Lord and personal Savior looked like. It will even go as far as leading you in the right path.
For this reason, let me start with the story of a lady who shared a scary testimony with her pastor in New Zealand.
JESUS IN THE STORM
Nothing rekindles my faith in Christ Jesus like that of the video of this testimony shared by the pastor of this said lady.
As narrated by the pastor, the lady boarded a plane from Australia to New Zealand. Then, while they were around the Tasman sea, an electric thunderstorm hit the cloud so much that everyone aboard the plane thought the aircraft would break up in two.
The tension was so much that the body of everyone in the plane kept pushing each other apart.
In the middle of that, she looked beside her and found another lady praying.
Who wouldn't like to pray in such a deadly situation?
Seeing her in a prayerful mood, the lady in question asked the other lady, "are you a Christian?"
"Yes," she retorted.
"Okay, then, let's pray together."
As they prayed together in that scary, deadly moment that just as Jesus stilled the storm 2,000 years ago, he should do it again; thereafter, the storm stopped in about 10 minutes' time, like a stroke of magic.
The tension seized, and everyone in the airplane sat down quietly, may be reminiscing on what just happened and probably repainting the pictures of their dead bodies being tossed by the wind and thrown down from several miles from the sky.
After her mind got settled, she took her Kodak camera and placed it against the window of the airplane just to see what the cloud that almost ended their lives looked like.
She snapped the cloud, and sent the negative to a photographer after they landed safely in New Zealand.
Few days later, the photographer called the lady that he would like to see the lady for an important talk.
She wondered why the photographer requested for her presence. Eventually, she visited the photographer who showed her the picture developed from the negative.
Can you guess what was in the picture?
What the photographer saw in the picture changed the live of the photographer, and his family, as soon as he knew the photo was taken in the middle of the air when the electric thunderstorm that almost break up the aeroplane stopped.
The lady gave the colored photograph to her pastor for sightseeing after she shared the testimony, but the pastor was only able to get the white and black copy... Take it a look at the picture below...
THE REAL APPEARANCE OF JESUS
Revelation 1:10-15
I was in the Spirit on the Lord's Day, and I heard behind me a loud voice, as of a trumpet,
11 saying, "I AM THE ALPHA AND THE OMEGA, THE FIRST AND THE LAST," and, "What you see, write in a book and send it to the seven churches which are in Asia: to Ephesus, to Smyrna, to Pergamos, to Thyatira, to Sardis, to Philadelphia, and to Laodicea."
12 Then I turned to see the voice that spoke with me. And having turned I saw seven golden lampstands,
13 and in the midst of the seven lampstands ONE LIKE THE SON OF MAN, clothed with a garment down to the feet and girded about the chest with a golden band.
14 His head and hair were white like wool, as white as snow, and His eyes like a flame of fire;
15 His feet were like fine brass, as if refined in a furnace, and His voice as the sound of many waters;
For someone like Apostle John, recognizing Jesus shouldn't pose a problem, as he spent 3 years following him.
While on the island at Patmos, in the vision he had, the voice he heard made me curious as to who the person was. As no one would ever tag himself "The First And The Last" except Jesus Christ, then this must have been Jesus himself.
So, out of curiosity, he looked back to see the person, and he saw 7 seven golden lampstands in the middle of which Son Of Man stood.
Although John made it sound like the person looked like the Son Of Man, it was indeed the Son Of Man, Jesus Christ himself.
From the description Apostle John gave about His appearance, one can easily deduce that the same person he saw was the same person Daniel sighted at River Tigris in Daniel 6:5-6...
5 I lifted my eyes and looked, and behold, a certain man clothed in linen, whose waist was girded with gold of Uphaz!
6 His body was like beryl, his face like the appearance of lightning, his eyes like torches of fire, his arms and feet like burnished bronze in color, and the sound of his words like the voice of a multitude.
Can you see that?
Apostle John said, he was GIRDED about his chest with a golden band. Likewise, Daniel said, His waist was GIRDED with gold of Uphaz.
In addition, Apostle John described his EYES as flames of fire while Daniel described his as torches of fire.
To add to that, Apostle John said his FEET looked like fine brass. In the same vein, Daniel said his feet looked like burnished bronze.
No doubt, these two great servants of God were not wrong. What they saw was exactly what they penned down in the best way they could describe it.
Had it been Apostle John never heard the words of Jesus as spoken by him, it would have been very difficult to figure out if it was really Jesus or not as the Angels in heaven dress like the Son Of Man.
Revelation 15:6
And out of the temple came the SEVEN ANGELS having the seven plagues, clothed in pure bright linen, and having their chests girded with golden bands.
This is why I laugh whenever I come across Bible teachers or preachers who call anyone that dresses like that as the Son Of Man.
Onward and consequently, never conclude you've seen the Son Of Man, Jesus Christ, when you sight a white garment girded with a golden band until you see his face that appears as lightning with torches or flames of fire eyes.
As it is in heaven, so was it on earth when Jesus was here. It was quite difficult for people to recognize Jesus when he was in the midst of his disciples.
This was why Judas had to set him up with a kiss, if not they would have arrested someone else...thinking it was Jesus.
Matthew 26:48
Now His betrayer had given them a sign, saying, "WHOMEVER I KISS, He is the One; seize Him."
And if you are really paying attention, you will noticed that I didn't mention anything as per his voice which sounded like the voice of hundreds of people talking at the same time. I did left out that part as the flapping sounds of the wings of an Angel is more or less like the sound of the voice of Jesus in echoing similitude as described by Ezekiel in Ezekiel 1:24.
Now, onto his bodily appearance, and from the beryl kind of body and burnished bronze kind of leg stated by Daniel and fine brass kind of leg pointed out by John, it is then correct to say Jesus has a brownish skin color.
Isn't that surprising?
Many think Jesus is white in skin color like the Americans. No, the Bible description of him shows a brownish color — what we call chocolate color — like we have in Africa.
John said, he saw his leg which looked like fine brass. And brass is brownish in color. For burnished bronze, that is also brownish in color. Even his body that looks like beryl as described by Daniel is also brown, beryl is brownish in color.
Mind you, brass is MUTED yellow with a hint of brown. That confirms Jesus was chocolate in color. In other words, he was not too dark, and he was not too fair. Therefore, it is very easy to recognize the appearance of Jesus.
That was why an unbelieving king who never saw Jesus face to face in the Bible days knew it was Jesus that appeared to save the people he intended to kill.
You know the story...
IN THE FIERY FURNANCE
Daniel 3: 18-25
18 But if not, let it be known to you, O king, that we do not serve your gods, nor will we worship the gold image which you have set up."
19 Then Nebuchadnezzar was full of fury, and the expression on his face changed toward Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-Nego. He spoke and commanded that they heat the furnace seven times more than it was usually heated.
20 And he commanded certain mighty men of valor who were in his army to bind Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-Nego, and cast them into the burning fiery furnace.
21 Then these men were bound in their coats, their trousers, their turbans, and their other garments, and were cast into the midst of the burning fiery furnace.
22 Therefore, because the king's command was urgent, and the furnace exceedingly hot, the flame of the fire killed those men who took up Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-Nego.
23 And these three men, Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-Nego, fell down bound into the midst of the burning fiery furnace.
24 Then King Nebuchadnezzar was astonished; and he rose in haste and spoke, saying to his counselors, "Did we not cast three men bound into the midst of the fire?" They answered and said to the king, "True, O king."
25 "Look!" he answered, "I see four men loose, walking in the midst of the fire; and they are not hurt, AND THE FORM OF THE FOURTH IS LIKE THE SON OF GOD."
As you can see in the 25th verse of Daniel 3 above, Nebuchadnezzar called the 4th person in the fire Son Of God.
He said the form of the person looked like that of the Son Of God as if he had seen Jesus before.
Of course, he never knew Jesus by face, but by the description of Jesus they had in their generation, he was quick to spot him in the fire.
Similarly, as Daniel and John described him, if you see Jesus right now, as you've read this post, you will find it easy to recognize him.
If you've not forgotten what the lady in the airplane saw in the photo she snapped in the middle of the air after the terrible electric thunderstorm, you will know of a surety that the form she saw was more or less like that of the Son Of God.
And please don't be mistaken... the person might have been an Angel as his face was not really seen.
THE REAL PICTURE OF JESUS
And for the record, no one has the real picture of Jesus while he was on earth since there was no camera then.
All we have is this picture below as passed down from one generation to another.
So, no one is really sure if that picture above is really him. But of a surety, we know he was not white in complexion, he had a brownish skin color like we Africans.
May he reveal himself more to us all in his mighty name, in Jesus name... AMEN
